Perkins was founded in 1932 in Peterborough (UK) by Frank Perkins and Charles Chapman, with an idea that was bold at the time: to prove that a diesel engine could be as nimble and fast as a petrol one. Its first engine, the Vixen, marked that change of mindset in the industry.
Since then, Perkins has focused on diesel engines for agricultural machinery, construction, materials handling and power generation. Since 1998 it has been part of the Caterpillar group, further strengthening its worldwide industrial presence, with capacity to build hundreds of thousands of engines a year.
Perkins engines are commonly found in generator sets, tractors, excavators, concrete mixers and port equipment, thanks to their reputation for toughness and low maintenance costs.
